Market Protocol March 2012
In April, investors turned their attention back to the sovereign debt crisis in Europe and the related recessions in certain euro countries, as well as rising unemployment. However, the markets were also driven by the latest round of quarterly reporting, which was generally positive. In this contradictory market, sellers were in the majority - resulting in losses on the international equity markets that ranged from -0.3% (Switzerland) to -5.6% (Japan). Where the capitalization indices were concerned, we saw a break in the small and mid-cap outperformance trend against large-cap stocks, at least in the USA and the Emerging Markets. It is still impossible to identify a clear trend among the style indices, although Quality found favor among investors and was able to make up ground. |
